News Bites – Friday the 21st of October 2016

– Last night Nintendo finally shed some light on the NX. Gone is the code name and in its place is the Nintendo Switch. The new hybrid home console appears to combine the best aspects of both the 3DS and the Wii U. What is also nice to see is that there seems to be a good amount of industry support from 3rd party developers so hopefully that will solve the Wii U’s biggest failing. Check out the video below and lets us know what you think.

– Another huge trailer dropped last night and that was for the highly anticipated Red Dead Redemption 2. After a week of teasing Rockstar blew the lid off with a stunning, if short, trailer. The game is coming in Spring 2017 so we still have quite some time to wait but there is sure to be more information in the meantime to keep everyone excited.

– It seems that the old Nintendo/Sega wars are being revived. A couple of months after the announcement of the NES Mini, Sega has come to the party with the “Classic Games Console.” Despite the generic and unimaginative name, it is a pretty cool bit of gear. It comes with 2 wireless controllers modeled after the original Mega Drive ones, 80 built-in Mega Drive classics like Sonic and Mortal Kombat and a cartridge slot that can be used with classic Mega Drive games. All that for the measly price of $99. It is sure to be a hit with the Sega players of old.

– Big news for PC strategy gamers with the release of Civilization VI today. The venerable franchise promises a host of improvements over past entries while keeping that addictive one-more-turn gameplay that has made the series famous. We will have a review on Player 2 soon but in the meantime check out the launch trailer and keep and eye out for that conniving warmonger Gandhi, he is gunning for you.
