All’s Fair in Love and Total War

All’s Fair in Love and Total War

So the good folk over at Creative Assemblies let slip the dogs of war this morning on where the next historical total war was to be set and what it is to be called.

This new game is not to be confused with the recently announced Thrones of Britania: A Total War saga or the soon to drop Tomb Kings DLC for Total War: Warhammer 2. No sire-bob, CA were not content with having only two announced games on the go, no they had to go up the ante with a brand new fully fledged historical title set in the ancient empires of China.

Set around 190CE, and the fall of the Han Dynasty, things are really not the best in ancient china, Its a mess, mainly because of the brutal regime of the tyrant Dong Zhou.

Now for those of you that follow me on twitter, you’ll know my favourite (and arguably the best) game in the Total War series is the amazing Shogun 2, so its fair to say I am very keen to get some time in Ancient China.

We have no gameplay information yet, but based on how the trailer is showcasing things, I think its fair to say that the ‘hero’ style units that have been at the forefront of the Warhammer games, will be making a comeback in Total War: Three Kingdoms. My only hope is that the clever folks at CA don’t make these hero / general units as overpowered as they are in Total War: Warhammer 1 & 2.

Story-wise, again, not a super amount of information available but it looks like a few of the more powerful great families ally together to take down the evil Dong Zhou. As we all know though, alliances in Total War games are always a fragile affair. Get too powerful and your allies will turn on you, become too weak and they will turn on you and take your lands. Look pretty much they are going to turn on you… unless you betray them first! Because as we all know, history is written by the victor.

Total War: Three Kingdoms is due for release around October 2018 for PC.
